How to choose a domain?
Domain extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .pw, and .io are all examples of LTDs. With over 3000 different options available, it’s impossible to list them all. The website tld-list.com is a great resource to compare pricing from different providers for these LTDs.
While there is an old tale that using a top-level domain extension will result in better SEO, Google has stated that they do not prioritize any specific domain extension over another. This means that a $0.99 domain and a $9,999 domain will have no difference in SEO.
When choosing a domain, it’s important to keep it short and memorable. Consider using a newer LTD that aligns with your brand, such as yourname.agency. Avoid using a super long name, and instead, opt for a shorter form that is easier to remember. For example, Douglas MacArthur Pest Control could use dmpc.com or dmpestcontrol.com.
Some people like to link words in their domain using a hyphen, but it’s difficult to say whether this is good or bad. Today, most traffic comes from link clicks rather than direct URL input. However, it’s generally best to avoid using a hyphen since it’s hard to input into the browser’s address bar.
If your website caters to a non-English-speaking audience, using a top-level LTD may be a better idea.
